Lips tend to get dehydrated, dry and flaky because they don’t have oil glands beneath them. You can apply lip balm for some relief but it won’t be effective enough when you have badly chapped lips.
Here is a list of DIY lip scrubs and masks that will help in getting rid of chapped lips.
1) Exfoliate well
You can exfoliate your lips with DIY lip scrubs and the help of a soft toothbrush or cloth.
Sugar and oil scrub
This one is quite popular. You simply need white sugar crystals along with coconut oil. Apply this mixture on to the lips and gently scrub away with the toothbrush or cloth. You will get great results.
Milk and turmeric scrub
To a teaspoon of cold milk, add half a teaspoon of turmeric powder. Apply it well to your lips and scrub it away when it dries off. Your lips will get healed, become well hydrated and turn incredibly soft.
2) Apply lip mask
Lip masks have a long-term healing effect on the lips and make them very soft. Check out the following lip masks you can make at home:
Glycerine and lemon mask
To a teaspoon of glycerine add a teaspoon of lemon juice. Apply this to your lips two to three times a week for soft and pretty lips.
Honey and lemon mask
To one teaspoon of honey, add half a teaspoon of lemon juice. The honey will help in softening and healing your lips whereas lemon juice will get rid of pigmentation.
Rose lip mask
To get rosy lips soak a few rose petals in a cold milk overnight and next morning make a paste out of them by crushing them. Add some milk to that and apply it to your lips. You will get great results.
Aloe vera lip mask
Mix some aloe vera gel (preferably fresh) with some coconut oil. This provides nourishment to the lips and can be used both as a lip mask and lip balm.
3) Buy a good quality lip balm
Choose a good lip balm for your lips. Make sure that you are not allergic to it. It will be a good idea to buy a lip balm that has SPF. It will protect your delicate lips from the effects of the sun.
4) Remove lipstick at night
Ensure to take off your lipstick before you hit the bed at night. This is important to keep your lips healthy and happy.
